Our abstract ID 134, entitled “Mitochondrial encapsulation technology for mitochondrial transplantation therapy” has been carefully evaluated and accepted by the Scientific Committee for a short oral presentation during the 14th World Congress on Targeting Mitochondria, which will be organized on October 11-13, 2023, in Berlin, Germany. LIGHT UP FOR MITO
The World Mitochondrial Disease Week on September 18-24, 2023 raises awareness of mitochondrial diseases worldwide through education, fundraising and advocacy. The awareness week ends with the Light Up For Mito event on Saturday 23rd of September 2023, when nationally important buildings are lit up green. The campaign is hosted by International Mito Patients (IMP).

Business Finland is funding researchers at Åbo Akademi with the goal of helping them bring their innovations to market
Business Finland finances Professor Hongbo Zhang with 467,000 euros for the Comitell project. Within the project, an encapsulation method based on biomineralization is developed and commercialized, and makes it possible to protect and preserve the bioactivity of healthy mitochondria that have been taken out of cells.
The goal is to be able to do mitochondrial transplants in the future to replace dysfunctional mitochondria in the body with healthy mitochondria. Mitochondria are important organelles in cells and many diseases are related to mitochondrial dysfunction.
The purpose of Research to Business funding is to prepare the commercialization of innovations and make it possible to carry out applied research so that the innovations meet the needs of the business market and society.

The Academy of Finland funding to Hongbo Zhang
Hongbo Zhang from Åbo Akademi and affiliated Group leader at Turku Bioscience received funding of 474 144 euros. His research topic is “Delivery of Entire Bioactive Mitochondria with Metal Organic Framework for Cancer Research and Therapy”.
